December 30, 2008 – Mumbai, India : Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (JISL) has bagged the largest single order for its dehydrated 0nion & Vegetables division to the value of approximately Rs. 270 millions from one of its reputed European customer. The order is for supply of dehydrated white onion in the calendar year 2009. The said customer supplies many kinds of food ingredients to major European food manufacturers and food service companies.

Ashok Jain, Vice Chairman Jain Irrigation Systems. Ltd said “We are extremely happy to receive this order. This is the single largest order for our dehydrated onion and vegetables division. We have developed high-solid onion varieties, which are helping Indian farmers to produce more and in turn allowing us to give what the International market expects.”

JISL is a global player in onion dehydration business. JISL is also the largest processor of fruits and vegetables in India. JISL has six plants for fruit & vegetable processing in India and one in USA. JISL is processing in excess of 350000 MT of fruits & vegetables per annum in its state of the art food processing facilities. The company is a major supplier to many MNC’s and leading food brands worldwide.

“Globally the market for dehydrated vegetables is estimated to be above 9,00,000 tonne globally and onions account for major portion of this demand. Indian onion dehydration industry has grown rapidly to become the second largest producer of dehydrated onions in the world. JISL is the only company in the organized sector in this field dealing in nearly 40% of the total exports of dehydrated onions from India” further added Ashok Jain

The company continues to invest to expand its product range and to strengthen backward linkages with the farmers in order to become major supplier of fruit & vegetable products in world market. Company is currently working with more than 4000 farmers to produce fruits & vegetables on contract farming & buy back arrangement. Its team of agronomists and agricultural scientists works hand in hand with the farmers to train them on right agricultural practices to get better yields and better returns for their agricultural produce. Company plans to expand the program and work with more farmers to produce few other fruits & vegetables in near future.
